The Novena to Saint Peregrine Laziosi —Servite friar of the 13th century and patron of those suffering from cancer, tumors, and chronic illnesses— recalls his conversion, his life of penance, and the miraculous healing of the cancerous sore he had on his leg. During these nine days, the faithful join in the example of trust and surrender of Saint Peregrine, asking for his powerful intercession to obtain health of the body and, above all, healing of the soul, accepting God's will with peace and hope.
Traditionally prayed from April 22 to 30, in preparation for its liturgical feast (May 1), although it can be started at any time of need. Each day begins with the Act of Contrition and the initial prayer to St. Peregrine; then the specific intention and reflection are proclaimed, and the prayer of the day is recited. It can be concluded with the daily final prayer. Upon completing the nine days, the litanies to St. Peregrine are prayed with their verse and final prayer. During the novena, it is advisable to go to confession, participate in the Eucharist, and offer some work of charity for the sick.
