Novena to St. Jude Thaddeus

Novena to St. Jude Thaddeus

Oh glorious apostle Saint Jude Thaddeus, faithful servant and friend of Jesus! The name of the traitor has been the cause of your being forgotten by many, but the Church honors and invokes you as the patron of difficult and desperate causes. Pray for me, who is so miserable; make use of that special privilege granted to assist visibly and promptly when almost all hope is lost. Come to my aid in this great need, so that I may receive comfort and help from heaven in all my tribulations. Amen.

Prayer description

The Novena to St. Jude Thaddeus is a nine-day devotion directed to the 'apostle of difficult and desperate causes.' St. Jude Thaddeus, cousin of the Lord and son of Mary of Clopas, has been invoked since the early centuries of the Church when human trials seem to have no solution. Through this novena, the faithful meditate on absolute trust in the power of God, strength in adversity, and hope that never disappoints, asking for the powerful intercession of the holy apostle. Praying it prepares the heart for his liturgical feast (October 28), renewing the faith that 'for God nothing is impossible' (Lk 1:37).

How to pray

Traditionally, it is prayed from October 19 to 27, culminating on the 28th (his feast day), although it can be done at any time of need. Each day begins with the Act of Contrition, followed by the initial prayer to St. Jude Thaddeus. Then, the specific intention and reflection are read, and the prayer of the day is recited. To conclude, the daily final prayer can be added, and at the end of the nine days, the litany to St. Jude. It is recommended to confess and participate in the Eucharist during the novena.
