The Novena to Saint Teresa of Calcutta (Mother Teresa) honors the founder of the Missionaries of Charity, canonized in 2016. Born in Skopje (1910) and passed away in Calcutta (1997), she devoted herself wholeheartedly to 'quenching Jesus' thirst' by serving the poorest of the poor. During these nine days, the faithful meditate on her unwavering faith, her burning love for Christ in the Eucharist, and her concrete compassion towards the discarded. The novena prepares the heart for her liturgical memorial (September 5) and encourages living charity to the fullest 'for the love of Jesus.'
Traditionally prayed from August 27 to September 4, culminating on September 5 (feast of Saint Teresa of Calcutta), although it can be started at any time of need. Each day begins with the Act of Contrition and the initial prayer to the saint. After that, the intention and reflection of the day are read and the prayer of the day is recited. To conclude, the ejaculation is added and, if desired, the daily final prayer. At the end of the nine days, the specific litanies are prayed with their verse and final prayer. It is recommended to confess, participate in the Eucharist, and perform a specific act of service to those in need during the novena.
